November 9th, 2024, marked a monumental night for fans of The Exies as they reunited for a memorable show at The Machine Shop in Flint, Michigan. This wasn’t just another rock concert; it felt more like a heartfelt family reunion. Fans traveled from across the country to celebrate the band’s second reunion show, an evening filled with nostalgia, emotion, and moving performances.
The night kicked off with an extra special touch for VIP fans who gathered in the Machine Shop’s iconic hallway for photos with the band. This tradition, started by The Exies themselves and captured by the venue’s talented photographer Jeff Mintline, has become legendary over the years. To be part of the moment that they originated was both historic and deeply personal for longtime supporters.
One of the evening’s most touching moments came when lead vocalist and guitarist Scott Stevens delivered an impromptu solo performance of “Tired of You.” His emotional dedication to the fans underscored the deep bond between the band and their supporters. It was raw, heartfelt, and extraordinary.
Scott Stevens is so much more than a gifted performer; he’s also an extraordinarily talented songwriter and producer whose work has touched some of the biggest names in rock today. Collaborating with heavyweights like Shinedown, Halestorm, Daughtry, Nothing More, and Scott Stapp, Stevens has a knack for drawing out the best in the artists he works with. It’s incredible to see so many iconic musicians placing their trust in his creative vision—a testament to his undeniable skill and artistry, which is reflected in his work with The Exies.
Despite his remarkable accomplishments, Stevens remains humble about his success. It’s rare for any artist to reach the heights he has in his career and still maintain the kind of loyal, grassroots following that The Exies enjoy. The fact that fans are willing to travel miles to support the band is a reflection of the profound impact Stevens and his music continue to have.
The chemistry between Stevens and bassist Freddy Herrera was another standout aspect of the night. Their energy and synergy lit up the stage, showcasing why The Exies remain a band unlike any other.
After the final note, the band stayed until closing time, chatting and connecting with fans. Their down-to-earth attitude and genuine appreciation for their supporters are part of what makes them so beloved.
The Exies may not have received the recognition they deserved during their initial run, but their comeback feels like a long-overdue second chapter, proving that great music and genuine connection never go out of style.
Their reunion show was both a celebration of the 20th anniversary of their groundbreaking album Head for the Door and a showcase of their latest EP, Closure. With a setlist spanning their entire career, the band delivered a masterclass in post-grunge excellence, treating fans to favorites like “My Goddess,” “Stray,” “Spirits High,” “Slow Drain,” “This is the Sound,” and “What You Deserve.” They closed the night with their hit “Ugly,” a perfect finale that left the crowd buzzing with excitement.
Here’s to the next chapter for a band that’s always been about more than just the music—it’s about the moments, the memories, and the magic they create.
