Brian Kelley was all smiles and full of energy as he took the stage at the New York State Fair on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Despite the heavy rain earlier in the day, which flooded parts of the fairgrounds and deterred some fans, the skies cleared up about 45 minutes before his set. Kelley’s genuine happiness to perform was palpable, as he embraced the resilient crowd with a warm spirit. He shared that he had just come from Dinosaur BBQ, which he enthusiastically described as “lit.” Although the rain had kept some away, those who stayed were rewarded with an intimate and unforgettable show.
Kelley’s live performance showcased a more traditional country sound compared to the pop-tinged production on some of his albums. He had a distinct Alan Jackson vibe, especially when he encouraged the audience to dance along to Jackson’s classic hit “Chattahoochee.” The resemblance to a younger Jackson was undeniable, both in his musical style and laid-back stage presence. His cover of “Margaritaville” further cemented that comparison, offering a nostalgic nod to country legends while making the songs his own.
Throughout the night, Kelley delivered an engaging mix of his hits and lesser-known tracks, including fan favorites like “Beach Cowboy” and new releases such as “Teal.” He also treated the crowd to the songs he penned for Jason Aldean, like “You Make it Easy” and “Burnin’ it Down,” and made it clear that he was no longer holding back on expressing himself, especially with performances of “Kiss My Boots” and his latest track, “Make America Great Again.”
One of the most memorable moments came at the end of the show when Kelley hopped off stage to sign items and take pictures with every fan that hopped in line, not stopping until he had met them all. His belt buckle, emblazoned with “Florida,” was a subtle yet heartfelt homage to his home state, reflecting his deep-rooted connection to his origins. Despite the earlier flooding and the smaller crowd, Brian Kelley’s performance was a testament to his dedication to his craft and his fans, leaving everyone looking forward to seeing him again.
