Mudvayne Drop First New Song in 16 Years, Headline Tour

By Rebecca Clark

Nu-metal titans Mudvayne have officially returned with their first new single in over 16 years. The track, “Hurt People Hurt People,” is out now via Alchemy Recordings, marking the band’s long-awaited step back into releasing new music.

True to form, the song is crushingly heavy and instantly recognizable as Mudvayne. It feels like the band has tapped back into their roots, channeling the raw intensity that first put them on the map. While the phrase “hurt people, hurt people” has been circulating for years, Mudvayne give it new weight, turning it into something cathartic and visceral. The lyrics “Destroy or create / My effects from the cause / Even when you’re to blame / It’s all my fault (fuck)” cut straight into the cycle of generational pain and the hard truth of taking responsibility in order to grow.

Frontman Chad Gray explains, “We create our own suffering, our own hurt. It’s time for us to create self-love and let go of the pain. It was never ours to begin with.” He’s right, it is up to us to heal, to let go, and to break the cycle in order to grow. “Hurt People Hurt People” doesn’t just point out the wound; it demands transformation.

The release comes just as Mudvayne gear up for their L.D. 50 25th Anniversary Tour, which kicks off September 11th and runs through October 26th. The tour will celebrate the band’s groundbreaking 2000 debut album L.D. 50, which helped define an era of heavy music and remains a cornerstone of the genre. Support comes from Static-X, with Vended opening select dates.

Formed in Peoria, IL, Mudvayne rose to prominence in the early 2000s with a string of Gold-certified albums and a reputation for pushing metal’s boundaries with both sound and image. After a decade-long hiatus, they reunited in 2021 to headline major festivals and now return with a fresh anthem that blends their trademark aggression with an evolved message.

With “Hurt People Hurt People,” Mudvayne aren’t just revisiting their legacy; they’re evolving it, reminding us that destruction and creation are often two sides of the same coin.
